Minoxidil Description
| 1. | Minoxidil is an antihypertensive vasodilator medication also claiming to slow or stop hair loss and promote hair regrowth. |
| 2. | It is available over the counter for treatment of androgenic alopecia, among other baldness treatments, but measurable changes, if experienced, disappear within months after discontinuation of treatment. |
| 3. | Minoxidil was first sold as a drug for high blood pressure and was noted to have the interesting side-effect of increased body hair-growth, or in some cases, significant hair loss. |
Minoxidil Dosage
Minoxidil comes in two strengths, a 2% solution and a 5% solution. The 5% solution should only be used by men. The 2% strength may be used by both men and women.
Apply Minoxidil as 1 milliliter (ml) of solution or half a capful of foam to dry hair and scalp two times a day (once in the morning and once at night).
Once applied, the drug should be left in place for at least four hours. Spread the medication evenly over the area to be treated, and then wash your hands with warm water.
Minoxidil should be applied at least twice daily for at least four months to see results. You will need to continue applying the mediation in order to maintain or see results.
